People tend to hold on to their past and think that they are not worthy of anything good because of what they did in the past. They think that because they stole this or deceived that person or treated this person bad that God would not accept them and take them back. God knows everything you have done and is going to do, even before you ever done any of it. God knows all and HE still chose to send his son Jesus to die for our sins. God does not care what you did because HE forgives you if you ask him in Jesus's name. Man may look at you sideways and hold your faults over you head, but the Lord washes your sins away and cleanses you. You do not have to worry about your past when it comes to God because HE loves you regardless of what you did, HE's just waiting for you to forgive yourself and come to him. There is nothing that you can do that will make God love you less.
Romans 8:37-39:
"Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. 38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
