Luke 23:46 Jesus called out with a loud voice, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit." When he had said this, he breathed his last.
Today commemorates the suffering that Jesus endured on that cross at Calvary. He was beaten crazily. He was mocked for no good reason. He was embarrassed to the extreme. Yet, although we know all of this, we still call it "Good Friday". How can death be good? How can suffering be good? How can being embarrassed be good? To many of us, there is nothing good about it at all. But I am reminded of the power of His death. Too often we rush to celebrate His resurrection--and rightfully so--but we don't take enough time to think about His death. I can't praise Him for raising up on the third day without celebrating that He died on the first.
Usually at funerals, we are sad. We cry like crazy. We are in a state of discomfort. It is hard to find peace. For all those people we cared about, who have gone on to the better side of glory, we were supposed to feel sad. They were here, and now they are gone. But...today is not the day to be sad. Today commemorates one funeral I'm not too sad about. Why? Because I know He's getting right back up with more power than ever!! WOW!! So, am I sad? Absolutely not!!
If you would allow me to sing (better here than in real life), I just want to leave this with you:
"He would not come down from the cross just to save Himself....He decided to die just for me."
