Many of us grew up in churches who were bent on keeping tradition alive. I've witnessed many services where the people were so caught up in making sure each tradition was carried out that the reason why we were there was lost. Its these traditions that have turned many people away from the church. Its these traditions or religious practices that have people at home rather than actually coming to church and taking on the "I'm Spiritual" title. I admit, the long drawn out baptist church tradition has turnned me off and I dread going to those type churches. When it comes to the church, there needs to be some type of order, but what there shouldn't be is limitations on how to praise God.
One thing I really didn't like seeing is how some church leaders would lead these long drawn out prayers, they would call meetings for the smallest things, and as soon as they leave the church they would be the biggest sinners walking.
I appreciate my father. He removed me from that environment and started a non denomination church that wasn't bound by the churches tradition and religious beliefs. We were created to serve God and to win more souls for Christ. That was goal of my father's church and that is what we did. If I hadn't been around that, I probably wouldn't want any parts of Christianity or the baptist church. I am not bashing the baptist church or any other church by no means. What I am saying is some churches loose sight of what saints are really there to do. In Isaiah, he goes into detail of his feelings toward people wrapped up in being very religious.
Isaiah 1
13 -17"Quit your worship charades.
I can't stand your trivial religious games: Monthly conferences, weekly Sabbaths, special meetings—
meetings, meetings, meetings—I can't stand one more! Meetings for this, meetings for that. I hate them!
You've worn me out! I'm sick of your religion, religion, religion,
while you go right on sinning. When you put on your next prayer-performance,
I'll be looking the other way. No matter how long or loud or often you pray,
I'll not be listening. And do you know why? Because you've been tearing
people to pieces, and your hands are bloody. Go home and wash up.
Clean up your act. Sweep your lives clean of your evildoings
so I don't have to look at them any longer. Say no to wrong.
Learn to do good. Work for justice.
Help the down-and-out. Stand up for the homeless.
Go to bat for the defenseless.
Don't be so caught up in religion that you forget the reason you are in church in the first place. Make sure you are putting God first and you are doing his will. Until next time...
