Society has coined a term that we are all familiar with to describe a jealous person..."Hater". The term is used very loosely these days but the Bible goes into detail describing "haters" and what type of lifestyle they live. I remember having a roommate during my time in college. (Since I'm so past that situation I can talk about it). She was the best on the track team and she knew it. Yet, she wasn't boastful about it or threw it in anyone's face, but I "hated" the fact she got sooooo much attention and special treatment. So jealousy rose up in me. I didn't say anything though, but it festered for months. Finally, I just snapped over something as small as debating over a date a test was on. (We had a class together). It had got to the point I could not stand to hear her speak. I actually tried to fight her.
I was so busy "hating" on her, I could not even get my own stuff in order. Hind site I see that jealousy and envy is a waste of time and energy. It is also damaging to your health. The energy it takes to hate on someone goes into creating stress. Stress is one of the leading causes of death. It is very important that we be happy for our fellow man. God has what he wants you to do, and he also has something he wants your neighbor to do. Trust me, you never know what someone else is going through. The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.
Proverbs 27:3-4:
3 Stone is heavy and sand weighty, but a fool's (unreasoning) wrath is heavier and more intolerable than both of them.
4 Wrath is cruel and anger is an overwhelming flood, but who is able to stand before jealousy?
If you are jealous of someone right now, let it go. Congratulate them on their achievements and keep it moving. Or do the Christian thing, assist them in doing better. Let God use you and don't ruin your witness by turning your nose up at someone who is "doing better than you". DONT BE A HATER!
Until next time...
