My BFF is Shelton. I've had a few close friends in my day, but I have never had a friend like him. After reading my studies today, it made me realize how good of a friend he really is and how I should cherish the friendship. In my line of work, I come across a lot of people who will put on the mask of friend to either get close to me or get something from me. As long as I have known Shelt, he has never been the type to want to take advantage of me and for that I thank God.
The Bible tells us that we are to love and respect our friends. They tell us the truth in love. They have seen all sides of us and know our true situation. They stand beside us when things are not going so well and they shine with us when things are going well. Many times people like to listen to by standers over friends. Mainly because bystanders will tell you what you wanna hear. Growing up, I moved around A LOT so I really didn't have the opportunity to make friends. Because of that, when I did make friends I wasn't all that sure how to be a good friend to someone else.
The best example of a friend is Jesus. It is important that we have a relationship with Christ. He can do things physical friends can do. Jesus did not let anything happen to his disciples during his time on earth. He spent his whole life being a friend. Which brings up a good question. What kind of friend are you? Remember, in order to be the ultimate best friend, you have to know the word of God. Honestly and devotion are very important in friendships. And though a friendship is great to have amongst ourselves, it is better to be a friend to God like Abraham.
James 2:23-24: 23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.
Take some time out and examine your friendships. Let your friend know you appreciate them. If you have not been a good friend, study the word and see what you need to do about changing. Until next time...
